Lingnan is Hong Kong’s only liberal arts university which is ranked third globally for “Quality Education” in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2021, and is ranked first for “International Faculty”, “Inbound Exchange Students” and “Outbound Exchange Students” in the QS Asia.

In the latest QS World University Rankings 2022, Lingnan is ranked 33rd globally in “International Faculty” and has achieved a significant advancement by 48 places in “International Students”. Besides, it is accredited as a Five Stars Institution by The QS Intelligence Unit in 2020, and received the maximum five stars in seven areas including “Teaching”, “Employability”, “Research”, “Internationsation”, “Facilities”, “Arts and Culture”, and “Inclusiveness”. It was also named by Forbes as one of the “Top 10 Liberal Arts Colleges in Asia” in 2015. The University offers MPhil and PhD programmes in the Arts, Business, Science and Social Sciences disciplines. To offer more diversified learning opportunities, especially for interdisciplinary research studies, Lingnan has been actively seeking collaborative opportunities with overseas universities. In the 2021-22 academic year, the University has launched the “Double PhD Degree Programme in Economics” with Wuhan University (WHU), China and the “PhD Programmes with Joint Supervision” with Shenzhen University (SZU), China in the research areas related to International Relations and Development Studies. More collaborative programmes are currently in the pipeline.
Applicants may seek admission to our PhD programmes in two ways as follows:
Apply via the HKPFS+ during the period from 1 September to 1 December 2021 (Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon). Applicants who apply for and do not get the Fellowship can still be considered for the regular PhD places at Lingnan.
Apply to the University directly~ from 1 November 2021 to 21 January 2022. Normally, full-time PhD students will be awarded full Postgraduate Studentships. In 2021-22, the full monthly stipend is HK$18,090*# before confirmation of candidature and HK$18,440*# after confirmation of candidature.
We also have popular research-based 2-year MPhil programmes. Applicants may apply for admission to our MPhil programmes directly from 1 November 2021 to 21 January 2022. Full-time MPhil students will also be awarded Postgraduate Studentships. In 2021-22, the full monthly stipend is HK$17,830*#.
*Amount subjects to annual review.
